CNN is in talks to acquire Zite, the personalized aggregated iPad magazine app, for $20 millon to $25 million, according to “multiple” independent anonymous sources of Techvibes writer Rob Lewis. Zite has consistently ranked among the 20 most popular free news apps for the iPad. It learns over time what each user likes and curates the latest relevant content from any source. Meanwhile, CNN’s iPad app is one of the most popular as well, but it includes only CNN content with no aggregation or personalization. It would be interesting to see whether CNN integrates Zite technology with its core apps, or keeps them as separate, complementary products.
