American readers came to the Guardian “for their perspective on the current events in Syria with the keyword ‘syria’ being the eighth most popular keyword for driving traffic to TheGuardian.com,” Compete.com’s Conor O’Mahony writes. Compete says unique visitors to the Guardian were up 1,111 percent over July and 671,389 percent higher than August 2012.

Compete.com’s August numbers include a blast from the past: MySpace.com is up more than 100 percent.
