Lionsgate will adapt New York Times columnist and reporter Nick Bilton’s book on Twitter’s beginnings for a TV series, Variety’s AJ Marechal reports Wednesday.

Bilton’s book, “Hatching Twitter,” recounts the story of four hacker buddies who started the social media network that grew to over 230 million users, leaving a trail of power struggles and broken friendships in its wake.

Executive producer Allison Shearmur said the television series will go behind the scenes of a groundbreaking Silicon Valley company, Variety reported:

“‘The Social Network’ was a perfect film, and this series will be different, providing a longer view of the work life changes, gamesmanship and personal sacrifices made by a group of individuals who are building a company that will change the way that people communicate.”

On Tuesday, Brian Stelter, host of CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” learned Lifetime will adapt for television his book, “Top of the Morning,” which tells of the competitive world of morning TV shows. The Hollywood Reporter wrote:

The producers say they have given little thought to casting, but hope that the film can have the same kind of cultural resonance as HBO’s hit telepic Game Change, also set in the recent past.
