Jay Yarow, formerly a deputy editor at Business Insider, has been named executive editor there, according to an announcement from Business Insider CEO and Editor-in-Chief Henry Blodget. Yarow replaces former Executive Editor Gus Lubin, who will take on “a big new role,” at the company, Blodget tells Poynter.
Yarow, who started at Business Insider as an intern seven years ago, has previously been a senior editor and technology editor there.
Blodget announced several appointments in addition to Yarow’s promotion, including the elevation of West Coast bureau chief Matt Rosoff to the position of technology editor. Rosoff will continue as bureau chief and deputy editor in addition to assuming his new responsibilities. He will be joined on the technology team by Lisa Eadicicco, who has been named news editor there.
According to the note, sports reporter Tony Manfred will become sports editor, replacing Leah Goldman, who has been promoted to assistant managing editor.
Blodget also announced the hire of Marcus Baram, who will be news editor and deputy editor at Business Insider. Senior editor Jenna Goudreau and senior correspondent Alyson Shontell have both been promoted to deputy editor, according to the note.

We are promoting Jay Yarow to Executive Editor. Jay joined us 7 years ago as an intern while attending NYU’s journalism school. He worked briefly for a legacy publication called BusinessWeek, then joined us full-time. Over the next four years, Jay developed great writing, digital, and tech expertise as a key member of our Tech team. Jay eventually decided he wanted to pursue the editing track, and he became Editor, Senior Editor, Technology Editor, and then Deputy Editor. Jay’s intensity, intelligence, and leadership have helped make our Technology section one of the best in the industry, and we’re thrilled to expand his responsibilities.
We are promoting Matt Rosoff to Technology Editor. Matt will continue to serve as Deputy Editor and West Coast Bureau Chief. Matt is one of the smartest, most experienced, and most knowledgeable Tech journalists on the planet, and he and his team will take BI’s tech coverage to the next level. We are also promoting Lisa Eadicicco, who has done wonderful work over the past year, to News Editor on our tech team.
We are promoting Leah Goldman to Assistant Managing Editor. Leah has done an excellent job editing our Sports section over the last few years (and, more recently, Lifestyle). She will now work with Managing Editor Jessica Liebman and Assistant Managing Editor Lyndsay Hemphill to hire, train, and manage our growing editorial teams. We are promoting one of our most talented journalists, Tony Manfred, who has helped pioneer a wonderful new form of sports journalism since joining us four years ago, to Sports Editor.
We have hired Marcus Baram as News Editor and Deputy Editor. Marcus is a highly experienced journalist and editor, having worked in print, broadcast, and digital over the past 15 years. Marcus has held senior positions at IB Times and the Huffington Post. He was an editor at the Wall Street Journal and the New York Observer. He began his career as a reporter at the Daily News. He also recently published a book on Gil Scott-Heron called Pieces of a Man.
We are promoting Jenna Goudreau and Alyson Shontell to Deputy Editors. Jenna will oversee our growing Strategy, Careers, and Personal Finance sections. Alyson will manage our New York-based tech team (working closely with Matt) and oversee our Science and Entertainment sections. Alyson will also continue to write some of the inside investigations she has become known for in recent years. Jenna and Alyson will join Matt, Julie Zeveloff, Sam Ro, Justin Maiman, and Marcus as Deputies, and each of them will also take on new responsibilities.
