Cory Haik, the executive director of emerging news products at The Washington Post, is headed to the millennial-focused news startup Mic as its chief strategy officer.
Haik, who was promoted at The Washington Post in July, will “lead Mic’s strategy across editorial, product and sales,” according to an announcement from Mic.

Haik is the second big-name hire made by Mic in recent months. In June, the company brought aboard Madhulika Sikka, the executive editor at NPR, to serve in that same role at Mic.
Mic, a New York-based company founded by Stanford alum Jake Horowitz and former Goldman Sachs employee Chris Altchek, currently has 30 million visitors a month, according to Re/code. The site lists more than 50 employees across its administrative, tech, policy and arts divisions.
In Haik, Mic has found a well-respected editorial and product leader. In November, Washingtonian named her “one of the most powerful women in Washington,” citing her predilection for “shaking things up at the Post’s emerging platforms.” An October profile in Digiday by Lucia Moses called Haik “the woman who’s driving digital experimentation at The Washington Post.”
