Aaron Kushner and Eric Spitz, co-owners of Freedom Communications and the Orange County Register, resigned their executive duties today. That means creditors could ultimately take control of the company. This leaves Publisher Rich Mirman, a former casino marketing executive, in charge.

The OC Register owners made headlines in 2010 when they purchased the paper with plans of focusing on print over digital.

More information from the Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Times.

Correction: It has not yet been confirmed that creditors have taken control of the Orange County Register.
