Editor's note: These podcasts are published in conjunction with the Tampa Bay Times, which the Poynter Institute owns.

Today’s WriteLane podcast is a conversation about how strong reporting is key to powerful stories.

The weekly podcast features Lane DeGregory, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter at the Tampa Bay Times and a frequent faculty member at Poynter, discussing her stories and answering questions. The focus is on craft.

In today’s episode, Lane discusses a story she wrote about race car driver Dan Wheldon’s widow. Wheldon died in an Indy car crash in October 2011. Read the story below.

"Marriage terminated by death. That’s what made it real."

A new podcast is available each Wednesday morning on the Times’ website and SoundCloud.

Listeners can submit questions by emailing writelane@tampabay.com  and tune back in each week to hear DeGregory’s answers.
