Reporting from the Front Lines of the Information Wars

EVENT DATE: May 9, 2019
LOCATION: Columbia School of Journalism, New York
TIME: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
COST: Free

Good journalism is no longer sufficient to combat the assault on truth and democracy. Media companies are struggling to adjust their practices so that they can counter the threat of information warfare and respond to the ethical challenges these threats pose.

At this exclusive event, you’ll hear from journalists including Daily Beast Editor Noah Schactman, NPR Media Correspondent and host, NPR’s On Point David Folkenflik and Rappler co-founder Maria Ressa about building credibility in the era of liars and leaks. You’ll dissect case studies with standards editors including The New York Times’ Phil Corbett and CNN’s Steven Holmes. And you’ll better prepare for the future with insights from researchers, security experts and big tech companies, including Facebook.

Join the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and the Poynter Institute as we define the extent of this new information war, explore a number of the fronts in the battle and identify new best practices for media organizations.
