This Digital Course Pack is for students enrolled at Northern Arizona University.

This is a series of self-directed courses produced by Poynter’s News University covering key aspects of news writing and reporting, focusing on the planning and writing of effective messages in journalism, public relations, and web media. Each of these digital courses has an assessment of your understanding of the information presented, which is part of your final grade in the course.

The courses in this pack are:

  • News Sense: The Building Blocks of News
  • News Literacy Primer: How to Evaluate Information
  • Ethics of Journalism

You need to complete all NewsU self-directed courses online as part of this Digital Course Pack, taking an assessment at the end of each course.

You can take the assessment up to three times and must make at least an 80 percent correct to pass each assessment.

Want to integrate Poynter News University courses into your curriculum or your organization’s training program?

This Digital Course Pack is for students enrolled at the University of North Texas. We can create a special edition of our courses for your students or staffers. As a bonus, you’ll get access to an Instructor Dashboard™, giving you access to their assessment scores. If you are interested in a DCP for your school, please contact us at info@newsu.org.

Looking for more? We also offer a News Literacy Primer, Numeracy Primer and a host of other courses you can build into Digital Course Packs to supplement your syllabus. Let NewsU be your online resource for teaching tools.
