Poynter’s 2022 Executive Leadership Summit will provide the space, tools and connections to help you prioritize talent retention and growth. This three-day, online gathering is designed for top-level media leaders who can set the tone and vision for the future of their enterprise.

What did you learn about yourself and your staff over the last two years that should influence your leadership strategy moving forward? How can you readjust your organizational culture to make your newsroom the best possible place to work? How do you make changes that stick during an era of constant upheaval?

Poynter’s leadership experts — Sitara Nieves and Cheryl Carpenter— will facilitate vigorous discussion around these questions, and draw upon Poynter’s vast network of industry leaders to suggest inventive solutions you can start implementing immediately. Amanda Ripley, investigative journalist and bestselling author of “High Conflict,” will talk on Day 1 about navigating through conflict as a leader. On Day 2, Marc Lacey, long-time newsroom leader and managing editor at The New York Times, will discuss leading change and retention. Poynter senior vice president and Craig Newmark Center for Ethics and Leadership Chair Kelly McBride and Facebook’s former director of strategic initiatives Andy Pergam will close out the summit with a frank conversation about ethics, social media and transparency.

Praise for Poynter’s 2021 Executive Summit

I feel like I actually have tools in my toolbox now. I am excited about my job again.

It may sound overly simplistic, but just realizing that so many other leaders are having the same struggles helped me feel less alone and more confident that I wasn’t just flailing.

The most important thing I learned is how to build a better me, and therefore a better newsroom.

I need to do reflection and resets like this one more often so I can remain consistent.

The people are the product. Boundaries between work and life need to be real, and enforced. Empathy and relationships with staff are paramount. I knew all of these things, on some level, but the seminar really enforced them. It also was good to think about them in isolation, and not while trying to do my job at the same time.

My Poynter experiences always leave me refreshed and reconnected. Thank you!
