The midterms are upon us and newsrooms are already engaged. From covering candidates and campaign claims to navigating misinformation and election integrity questions, journalists need practical tools and trusted guidance they can use immediately.
Poynter’s Beat Academy: Midterm Prep webinar gives editors, broadcasters, producers and reporters actionable reporting strategies to strengthen their election coverage ahead of the 2026 midterms.
During this live 75-minute webinar on July 15, participants will learn alongside peers from across the country, guided by Jon Greenberg (Beat Academy lead faculty), Caryn Baird (Poynter news researcher) and Amy Sherman (PolitiFact senior correspondent). Attendees will receive practical tip sheets, reporting resources and real-world strategies designed to help journalists cover the election with depth, accuracy and confidence.
Topics will include how to debunk election misinformation, verify candidate claims and resumes, investigate public records and identify key story angles around issues voters care about most. The session will also explore ways to cover races through the experiences of communities and voters, rather than campaign narratives alone.
Participants will leave with access to reporting tools, research databases and practical guidance they can immediately apply to their election coverage across platforms.
Thanks to the generous support of the Joyce Foundation, this webinar is free to attend for journalists across the United States.Â
