    Vocativ adds to beat coverage, audience development teams

    Vocativ, the news startup that aims to mine hidden crannies of the Web for story ideas, announced Monday six new appointments to various reporting, production and audience development roles.

    The hires, which were touted in a staff-wide memo from Chief Content Officer Gregory Gittrich, are part of an ongoing push to reorganize the newsroom around beat coverage priorities set forth by Gittrich shortly after his arrival in January.

    Annemarie Dooling named head of growth at Vocativ

    Vocativ on Tuesday announced that Annemarie Dooling will be head of growth for the news startup, responsible for boosting its audience and engagement on social media.

    Dooling, who has done stints at Yahoo, The Huffington Post and AOL, was previously a community advisor at Salon, where she consulted for the site's commenting platform and moderation tools, among other things.

    Vocativ's chief business officer steps down

    Steve Alperin, chief business officer at the news startup Vocativ, has left the outlet effective immediately, he confirmed to Poynter Friday.

    Alperin, who joined Vocativ in February 2013, was previously an editor-at-large at Newscorp and a managing editor at ABC News, according to his LinkedIn profile.

    In an email to Poynter, Alperin said the parting was amicable and motivated by a desire to go into business for himself.

    Vocativ names new editorial director, outlines coverage priorities

    Vocativ, a startup that aims to break news using data and the deep Web, took additional steps in its 2015 reboot Tuesday, making two senior appointments and solidifying its beat coverage.

    In a memo to staff, Chief Content Officer Gregory Gittrich announced the appointment of Alex Koppelman to the position of editorial director. Koppelman, a New Yorker alumnus who's currently enterprise editor at Guardian U.S., will be charged with determining the startup's editorial priorities and managing the day-to-day news report.

    Vocativ shuffles executive ranks at the outset of new investment

    Vocativ, the media startup launched in 2013 charged with scouring the "deep Web" for story ideas, announced Wednesday a reorganization of its executive ranks ahead of renewed investment in the company.

    Scott Cohen, the current CEO of Vocativ, will step down to take on a role at a company owned by Mati Kochavi, the founder of Vocativ, according to a staff memo to employees from Kochavi. His new job will be "centered on sports and entertainment," and will involve "Big Data and the Internet of Things," according to the memo.
