The New York Times has launched the unbundled version of The New York Times Book Review on the Sony Reader, charging $2.99 a month or 99 cents for a single copy.

The launch follows last week’s report that the Times will make the Book Review available on three e-reader platforms, including Amazon’s Kindle and Barnes & Noble’s Nook as well as the Sony Reader.

Times marketing exec James Dunn told me about the plans during the E-Reader Symposium run by the Digital Publishing Alliance at the University of Missouri’s Reynolds Journalism Institute.

Currently, the Times sells the Book Review as a stand-alone product by mail, charging $1.75 a week for surface mail and $3.75 for priority mail.

The Times sells its entire Sunday paper, including book reviews, for $13.99 on the Kindle.
