The art and culture site Animal inserted a letter purporting to be from New York Post Editor Col Allan into some copies of the paper Friday. A video outlines the prank:
“This week, the New York Post has acted recklessly and with flagrant disregard for the principles of good journalism,” “Allan” writes. “I’d like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to our readers, to the people of Boston, and to the three men who were mistakenly investigated as subjects.”
The paper was criticized last week for running a front-page photo of two men and (incorrectly) suggesting they were suspects in the bombings.
Post owner Rupert Murdoch defended the newspaper’s coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings and their aftermath on Twitter this weekend:
All NYPost pics were those distributed by FBI.And instantly withdrawn when FBI changed directions.
