The APME board approved the change today — an acknowledgement that the organization, which was founded by newspaper managing editors in 1933, needs to change with the times, says APME president Hollis R. Towns. “A simple name change also is reflective of the larger tent that we intend to pitch to bring in a broader, more diverse group of members.” Earlier this year, the American Association of Sunday and Feature Editors changed its name to Society for Features Journalism, and in 2009 the American Society of Newspaper Editors became the American Society of News Editors.
