TVWeek | LA Times
In one of 10 “classic” stories about Hollywood scandals republished in a new issue of the magazine, Dennis Davern, captain of the boat carrying actress Natalie Wood the night she drowned in 1981, reveals information he did not share with police during the original investigation into her death. But the article, “Natalie Wood’s Fatal Voyage,” first appeared in the magazine in March of 2000. So why the new interest in Davern, who wrote a book about Wood two years ago? According to the Los Angeles Times, the Sheriff’s Department says it “recently received a letter from an unidentified ‘third party’ who said the captain had ‘new recollections’ about the case” and so it is reopening the investigation into Wood’s death, which was ruled an accident. CBS will air a special Saturday night based on the Vanity Fair issue.
