Time again for a roundup of readers’ tips. Send your ideas to poynter@sree.net.
Jack Hidary writes: “Enjoyed your piece on opinion roundups. I am such an op-ed junkie that I
started a site with journalist friends — OpinionSource.com. Three newsletters — U.S., Europe, and China — which deliver key op-ed context and links on a daily basis. Online archive is available as well. We launched it at the Davos World Economic Forum — very positive response.”
Sarah Milstein, a regular contributor here, pointed me to FundRace.org (a site she’s not affiliated with). This site shows you who’s been donating to the Republican and Democractic parties. The City Maps and Neighbor Search features are what you will want to check out. The “About” page says: “We wondered what we could see about campaign finance, what kind of statements we could make about where the money that affects elections comes from, by poking through the electronic contribution data from our current presidential race.” It’s not 100 percent accurate, but is good for getting the big picture. From the folks who brought us the whimsical (but not always updated) GoogleRace.com site.
Kathy Summers pointed me to her site, HealthWriting.com, which has “lots of links and resources for health writers and a page called ‘The Global Sneeze’ that chronicles the conflicts of interest rampant in medical research and journalism.” Also check out her tips for health writers.
