About Regret the Error

Regret the Error reports on media errors, corrections, retractions, apologies and trends regarding accuracy and verification. It was launched as a standalone blog in October 2004 by Craig Silverman, an award-winning journalist and author based in Montreal.

In December 2011, Regret the Error moved to the Poynter Institute, and Craig was named a member of the adjunct faculty. He continues to write and edit the blog, and contributes a related weekly column to the Toronto Star.

Regret the Error is a non-partisan resource to serve the press and public by helping make news reporting more accurate and transparent. To learn more about the mission and background of the blog, you can read this 2007 Poynter interview with Craig. He's also the author of a related book, "Regret the Error: How Media Mistakes Pollute the Press and Imperil Free Speech." It won the Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism from the National Press Club.
