BOSTON (AP) The Archdiocese of Boston reinstated a Wayland priest after church officials said they were unable to substantiate an accusation that he had sexually abused a minor more than 30 years ago, the archdiocese announced Sunday.
The Rev. Ronald Bourgault, pastor of St. Zepherin Parish, was suspended in June after the archdiocese received the complaint. The archdiocese did not release details of the accusation, saying only that it had been made recently about an alleged incident more than 30 years ago.
Bishop Richard Lennon decided to reinstate Bourgault after receiving a recommendation from his delegate on sexual abuse and a church review board, church officials said Sunday.
Parishioners at St. Zepherin Parish were told of Bourgault’s reinstatement at weekend Masses. Bourgault resumes his work at the parish on March 1, according to a prepared statement the archdiocese released Sunday.
