(New York-WABC, August 25, 2003) — A formal autopsy will be conducted today on the body of pedophile priest John Geoghan. Meantime, there’s new information about how one of the most infamous figures in the Catholic church sex abuse scandal was murdered in prison.
Details of the brutal attack are outlined in today’s the Washington Post. According to an official with the correction officer’s union, an inmate followed the former priest into his cell, bound, gagged and strangled him. He then repeatedly beat John Geoghan’s lifeless body.
According to today’s Washington Post, former priest John Geoghan was followed into his cell just after lunch by another inmate, who jammed the door to prevent guards from opening it.
A preliminary investigation shows Geoghan was strangled by the inmate at a Massachussets State Prison. The alleged perpetrator, Joseph Druse, is a convicted murderer who has publicly professed his hatred for Gays, Jews and Blacks.
Meanwhile, some of geoghan’s 130 sexual abuse victims are struggling with mixed emotions upon learning of his death.
