The Rev. Daniel McBride’s 52-year career as a Roman Catholic priest is over.

McBride, who had pleaded guilty to promoting prostitution with a 17-year-old boy whom he took from Cleveland to his condominium in New York to engage in sex for hire, was sentenced Thursday to three years’ probation.

“Dan McBride did not use his status as a priest to facilitate this act. He did make a tragic mistake at the end of his wonderful career,” said Brian Downey, McBride’s attorney. “His vocation is ended. He cannot act as a priest.”

McBride, 76, also was classified as a sexually oriented offender and ordered by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Ann Mannen to register his address monthly with the local sheriff for 10 years. As a condition of his probation, McBride must complete 200 hours of community service, counseling other sex offenders.

A violation of the conditions of the probation could result in a year of incarceration in the Lorain Correctional Institution.
