The American Press Institute’s MediaMorphosis conference in Newport Beach, Calif., kicks off this morning with more technology than this Chaser has seen outside of a computer. Or, to echo Jeff Greenfield from CNN, who is leading the first session: The last time he saw this many computers, it was to recount the 2000 Florida vote.

Everyone has a laptop, most connected to the WiFi network, which is a apprioriate given the focus of this confab: the convergence of technology and journalism.

And while the big C-word hasn’t surfaced yet, last night’s opening presentation by DJ Spooky opened some old-media eyes to new forms of story telling. Spooky, a.k.a. Paul D. Miller, is a New York-based musician, conceptual artist, and writer best known by his “constructed persona,” “DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid.”

Convergence Chaser won’t be writing live; we’ll leave that to the conference’s official bloggers, posting here. However, as we hear/see/do things that are interesting, we’ll post them.
